Rediscovering that Perfect Body

Most women, especially those who have had children, long for the body they used to have. Motherhood and age tend to take a toll on the body, leaving a little bit of fat along the way. As we age, we tend to become less active, so our muscles slowly dissolve into fat. We sit in our armchair, looking at society’s depiction of the perfect body on television and getting depressed because we are so far from perfection.

Obviously, sitting in that chair isn’t going to help us change our body shape; we need to increase our activity levels and may need to change our diet.

Take an honest look at your daily life; are there times that you can go for a walk? Can you walk to the store instead of drive? Do your children have a dance game on the Wii, XBox 360 or Playstation? Be creative! Anything that gets you moving and raises your heart rate will help. The activities you do for physical activity are going to depend on your physical fitness level. Start off small, and as you gain strength, add distance to your walks, and more intensity to other activity.

If you can handle it, try some workout videos. Pilates and Yoga are great at increasing both flexibility and strength. The key to getting that perfect body back is consistent cardio activities.

The other component to getting that perfect body is your diet. Keep a food diary for a few days, just to see your eating patterns. What types of foods are you eating the most? What are you snacking on? A healthy weight loss diet consists of fruits, vegetables, grains and lean meats. Snack on fresh fruits and vegetables instead of Oreos and Twinkies. Start eating 3 small meals and 2 snacks instead of 3 big meals.

Changing dietary habits is the hardest part of trying to get the perfect body. Meal replacements diets, like Medifast, may be the perfect solution. This way, you don’t have to worry about creating and maintaining a low calorie diet; the work is already done for you.

Most of us won’t be as small as we were in high school; but with some hard work and dedication, we can have a perfect body again.
