How important are wedding favors?

I’m planning my wedding and my fiance and I are on a budget. we are financing the whole thing ourselves and there has been a few adjustments. Now I understand the whole wedding favors thing, but how important are they? will it really matter if i decide to leave out wedding favors for our guests? would it cause irreparable harm?
