Jogging and Weight Loss

Exercise and healthy living is on every one’s mind these days. The media , the Internet and even TV reality shows have us paying more attention to how much we really do exercise and eat right. Jogging is one of the exercises highly regarded workouts that most use in order to get into shape. It is commonly known fact that exercise is needed for healthy weight loss. Exercise does not necessarily mean lifting weights either.

 There are many ways to get the cardiovascular exercise you need including walking, running, jogging, swimming, or even your favorite sport. Most people will exercise more if they actually enjoy the method of exercise that they are doing. Whether you incorporate music into your exercise for fun, or just jog outdoors it doesn’t matter , as long as you are getting active. Incorporate weights with your jogging once you get into a routine for maximum benefits.

 However don’t just start jogging to loose weight. Depending on how much weight you need to loose, you might want to start with a healthy diet and different exercise to start loosing your target weight  then progress. Jogging itself the way most people do it, is actually bad for losing fat. The reason for this  being that when  jogging for long distances it starts to eat away at your muscle for energy rather than your fat. This is a common problem for most long distance joggers. Also, when you break down muscle like this, it can actually slow down your metabolic rates and you can actually gain weight in the end.

The best way to start jogging  is to begin in  intervals. An example routine would be to run at high intensity for about 10-15 seconds, which will raise your heart rate, then  slow down to a walk or slow jog for about 20-30 seconds. Repeat this method for about 20 minutes and you will be burning fat and preserving, and most likely gaining, muscle. If possible, try to avoid jogging for long periods of time until you have lost all you ideal weight and want to maintain your target weight. Don’t go for more than 20 minutes, keep it at a minimum until such time that you are satisfied with your weight loss.

Remember that any exercise you do is going to be beneficial to you in some way or another so the fact you are getting active is a benefit on it’s own. Just get out and try to have fun with your work out or maybe even join your favorite recreational sports league if a jogging routine like this doesn’t work for you. There are many resources for indoor or outdoor activity all you have do is keep motivated to see the results your looking for. You can exercise and jog in a group or by yourself  whatever your preference is, just keep it working for you  and soon you will see a difference .
