LOL! Yeah, it’s way overused. “Oh, they used sandal wood fans as wedding favors. How tacky..” or “Oh my God. They chose to do the bouquet toss. Tacky.” or “They didn’t even bother to handwrite MY address on MY wedding invitation. So tacky…” Blah blah blah … I prefer the word ‘crass’ lol.

  2. TAlex88 says:

I don’t agree. I reckon people just want to know proper etiquette so they don’t end up looking foolish.

  3. Chicago Lawyer says:

There are certainly many other adjectives one can use besides the overused “tacky,” i.e. trashy, inappropriate, crass, uncouth, ill-mannered, crude, impolite.

But I disagree with the assertion that being aware of what is or is not tacky, in fact, makes one tacky. For example, I am very aware of all sorts of torts and crimes, but that doesn’t make me a criminal or tortfeasor.

What seems like hyper-vigilance to etiquette standards by one person, can be regarded as simply a basic understanding by another person. It’s all relative.

  4. My thumb is bigger than yours says:

Yes. I reckon it’s highly over used. Sometimes people use it to describe something that they don’t like or that isn’t their taste, which makes me laugh because that’s not what it means.

  5. Mrs. T to Be says:

HAHAHA! This is so amusing. I was just thinking it. The word tacky is just… tacky. hahaha! Excellent stuff.
Yea it’s annoying. Find some synonyms for tacky, people!

edit: WOW is everyone going act like a bunch of babies crying over the word tacky? Get pissed everyone!!!!

  6. Boogers says:

I kind of like the word tacky. It sort of makes me reckon of that sticky stuff you place on the back of laminated posters to stick them to the wall. Like they use in schools. Random thought about the word tacky. I am not sure what the Platinum Bride trend is, sorry!

  7. Suz123 says:

The synonyms for tacky are inelegant, tasteless, unbecoming . . . according to the thesaurus.

I’ll be pleased to use “inelegant, tasteless, and unbecoming” . . . if that is what you prefer, LOL.

Or better yet . . . everyone here in the Wedding Section could just stop doing tacky things. Yes, that’s a excellent thought. Then all the weddings will be elegant, and tasteful, and becoming, and wonderful.

  8. Lovin29 says:

Wow, it’s crazy that you could really rub someone the incorrect way by asking this question! I don’t get people! I bet you never thought you’d be so controversial.

Anyway, I know what you mean. Some brides reckon that anything other than what they like is “tacky” To me tacky is…
    thinking that highly of yourself
    having a closed mind
judging others b/c they are not like you
    garter tosses (lol)

Well- rock on you diva. Best Wishes= )

  9. :) says:

I vehemently dislike the word “tacky” I prefer the word tasteless.

  10. Anne says:

It might be overused, but in some cases it is just a word that works so well.

  11. o0mrsavila0o says:

    TACKY, TACKY, TACKY… lol

I want to give you a huge hug. Perhaps, but not only, due to the half bottle of Pinot Griogio I’ve had tonight. I am so SICK of people talking about Tacky. Clearly, anything and everything can be seen as tacky in a certain light. I’ll do what I want, when I want. And if anyone wants to call the Tacky Police on me, they are welcome to it. I’ll have my unassigned tables, my half cash bar and my gift opening for family only. Suck on it, Tacky Police!

  14. *Miss_Autumn* says:

I completely agree that the word is overused to the point that it doesn’t have any meaning anymore. People who use it don’t care what anyone except themselves reckon. There are a ton of words that can be used instead that are much more tactful and are not cruel but folks refuse to use them because they know that, meanwhile claiming that they don’t have the same or similar meaning. In the end, it only makes them look terrible, not you.
