Have an afternoon wedding. Since it is after lunch and before dinner, you can get away with providing simple refreshments and snacks/finger foods instead of a full blown meal.

Do not serve alcohol. Most places require you have security on site and up the rental price if any alcohol is served.

Skip bridesmaids/groomsmen, or just have one each. Less dresses to buy and suits to rent.

Check public parks and gardens for venues. Some even include tables and chairs in the rental, which can save you money.

If you pick a place that has some natural beauty (say a garden, park or arboretum) there are less flowers to buy. Your bouquet can also decorate the beverage or cake table after the ceremony but before the bouquet toss.

Don’t be worried to enlist the help of family. Most people want to help with something, and you may be able to delegate some things to family members (like making sure the beverage containers stay full or that everyone picks up their trash)

Still in the plotting process myself, but doing the above has saved us a considerable amount of money.
