most people give money for the wedding but they will go off of your registry if they choose to give you a gift
It depends. Where I’m from the “bridal” shower is a “wedding shower” and the gifts are usually from the registry for the couple (and the groom attends). The wedding gifts can also be from the registry, but most people give a monetary gift. The gifts that are just for the bride are given at the bachelorette party.
I’ve gotten gifts for BOTH the wedding and bridal shower off of the registry. It’s so much simpler when choosing a gift to get it off the registry. I’ll typically spend a small less on the shower gift and then more on the wedding gift. And then, if I’m invited to the bachelorette party, I’ll get something for the bride-to-be only (like lingerie).
Both the shower and the wedding celebrate the union of the couple, so the registry is for both occassions.
I reckon they can be used for both. Once a gift is bought, it is taken off your registry, so keep the registry active until the wedding and people can use it if they want to.
I don’t reckon it really matters–registry gifts can be given at either the WEDDING shower or the actual wedding. But, if there is to be a bridal shower or a bachelorette party, normally bride-only gifts are given (negligee and etc.) Just make up a gift registry, and let people know about it. If they want to get you a gift from these, they’ll give them to you whenever they feel is appropriate. Besides, not everyone will be able to make it to your wedding shower and/or wedding, so they’ll have to do so whenever they can.
Both
Registry is for the Bridal/Wedding Shower and Cash (At least $100/pp) at the wedding.
Weddings are very expensive these days and will usually leave the newlyweds in debt, thus, that is why you must be generous.
Registry gifts are for both the shower and the wedding (and the engagement party if you have one of those and register before you have it).
Most people, at least in my geographic area and social circle, give gifts from the registry for the engagement and shower. For the wedding, cash is typical.
