you’re better off going to a jeweler so you can see what you are buying.

the rock sits on a setting.

I have heard nothing but excellent things about http://www.brilliantearth.com/. Not only are the rings gorgeous, but they’re conflict free and green (made of recycled metals) and a percentage of each buy goes to help people in Africa.

you should not get this kinda thing online in my opinion. if you have excellent credit with a “700″ credit rating or higher. you can go into anywhere in jewelry stores and get a very excellent deal rite now because the economy is so horrible. in october i bought a one carrot diamond ring for about 15 hundred dollars with a very nice cut in a platinum setting. i am telling you, if you have excellent credit people are giving stuff away rite now. and always remember the prices of all gold and diamonds is marked up 400% as soon as it hits U.S. soil and this is why stores are able to give such excellent prices at the moment with the economy being in the dump. don’t you ever wonder why around Christmas prices on all jewelry drop so low this is another example of why they are able to control the prices and like i said because of the economy there willing to do anything to make a sale especially in the stores that are currently going out of business and are looking to get rid of there inventory

    excellent luck and best wishes.

My engagement ring was from Blue Nile http://www.bluenile.com and I highly recommend them. Their pricing is half what you would pay for in retail, and you can get very excellent quality. In fact, you can choose the exact diamond specifications you want (cut, clarity, carot, color, etc). They also have a guide to the meaning of cut, clarity, etc for first time buyers. They have a very excellent reputation, and have been mentioned in the NY Times.

Btw, when I took my ring into Ben Bridge to get it resized, the ladies there wowed my diamond and assumed my fiance had paid twice as much.

The diamond is set on different settings, usually prongs.

    Excellent luck!

Another word for the mounting is the “crown” or “head.” Is one of those the word you’re looking for? (The band part of the ring is the shank.)

And I might get a lot of thumbs downs for this, but try Jewelry Television. It has fantastic prices and gorgeous jewelry, and offers ring settings without stones as well:

    Some wedding bands:

Best of luck finding what you’re looking for!

    Mine was bought from www.bluenile.com

With this website you can pick your diamond and setting separately. Which is nice because we received a high quality diamond unlike generic settings.

We had my ring looked at by a local jeweler and it was everything and more promised from the website.

And they have a no questions questioned 30 (?) day return policy if you are miserable.

You can also place any shaped diamond into whatever setting you like to get a visual. Its helpful and you have no limits.

    Excellent luck!

I bought my engagement ring from the online diamond boutique http://whiteflash.com

Their service is brilliant and the transaction both safe and smooth. You can buy the stone, setting and wedding ring from them. The have settings ready to buy to place your diamond in, or they can custom make the setting to you specifications.

The part of the ring the single diamond sit can be broken down into 2 categories. First, the metal that really cups and holds the diamond is called “The Head”. The second is the round piece of metal that the diamond sits on and you place your finger into. This is called “The Shank”.

Here are some links to some of the settings and wedding rings that Whiteflash offers.

There is no perfect answer to your question. The key is figuring out what you want. Once yo have an thought of what you want, you can call a few places and question them to give you a price.

Or, you can use a free service like DiamondsForHer.com and fill out a simple form. They will then contact local jewelers in your area with your specs. The jewelers then contact you with their best price. The excellent news is that this saves you from making 20 calls and listening 20 different sales pitches.
