Recently thе trend seems tο bе round cakes wіth tier аnd upon tier. I wουld much rаthеr hаνе one large sheet cake. I’m a simple person аnd I сουld gеt a rectangular sheet cake thаt costs hаνе thе price οf a cake wіth four layers аnd a lot οf frilly decoration.
Wουld іt bе tacky tο hаνе a a large flat sheet cake fοr thе guests аnd a small round cake fοr thе bride аnd groom? Thе wedding I want tο hаνе (whеn thе time comes) wουld bе simple аnd very laid back – nearly BBQ lіkе. I don’t want tο spend more thаn $200 οr ѕο οn thе cake total.
Haha. Wedding pitchers.

you do not have to have round cakes. my cake is square. a sheet cake would be just fine if that is what you want.
excellent luck to you
No, wedding cakes don’t have to be round. They can be anyway you’d like. Usually wedding cakes have tiers because the cake is used as a decorative piece. But if none of that matters to you, then why bother!
I wouldn’t find one large flat sheet cake tacky, especially given the laid back nature of your wedding.
that sounds like a fantastic thought if your going for simple, i reckon it would be fantastic to have one large sheet cake and then a round one for the bride and groom to cut into and alot less expensive too.
no they don’t have to be round
this is the US you can have whatever kind/shape of cake you want!
Remember its YOUR special day. With that said I reckon a sheet cake is perfectly acceptable! =]
They can be… mine was but there are people you can pay a lot of money that can make them any way you want. I once say a wedding cake that looked like a pillow and another that looked like a highland cow…. with horns too then again that was a Scottish wedding
Wedding cakes do not have to be round. They can be any shape you want them to be. Since you’re plotting a very laid back wedding, I reckon your thought of a sheet cake for the guests and a round cake for you is just fine.
You may have any shaped cake you desire as long as you use some taste when deciding.
I’ve seen flower shaped, comma shapes, square, oval… Use your imagination!
it is your wedding i say have it your way just remember it will be in your wedding pitchers that’s how i would look at it .
Nope. It can be anything you want. Mine was square. And green!

lol this is simple am a baker so coeing from me its ur cake u tell me whats in ur head and ill make it. heres a small tip what u want goes dont let him or her change anything , cuz sometimes were to bone idle to go the long way
It’s a matter of preferance, that’s all. No such thing as ‘tacky’ just because you choose not to follow the crowd….excellent luck.
Edit: Wedding pitchers? What do they do, throw slices of wedding cake to the guests….. “Now for the wind-up”..hehe
Wedding cakes have traditionally always been round. Square is the recent trend as of the last 10 yrs. There is nothing tacky about a sheet cake but technically it is more work for the baker so in any other industry you would be charged more the extra work but a large number of bakers somehow make a living by charging less than their labor is worth. But there is no reason whatsoever that the sheetcake needs to be hidden from view. If a caterer tries to tell you that it takes an hour to cut a cake, they need to go back and re-learn how to do their jobs, because it doesn’t take anywhere near that long.
Basically no a wedding cake doesn’t have to be round it can be any shape that you want it to be.
