Yes, you can do that (many people do), but you will still have to do a legal name change (which doesn’t cost much). Keep in mind that you will still be Jane Doe if you choose the former, and the process is the same for each choice.
You take the certified copy of your marriage license to the Social Security office. You change your name with Social Security.
You then take the certified copy of your marriage license to get a new drivers license.
Then you can change your name with your bank, your credit credits, your magazine subscriptions and whatever.
But Social Security first, then drivers license.
I vote for Jane Smith Doe. First name, maiden name, and then married name.
I suggest Jane Smith Doe, I’ve been told if it is hyphenated that you can just use one of them and it is ok… So say you have to call doctors office and you could still use Jane Smith they still should know who you are or it is excellent if you are in the military cause then military doesn’t require you to change your name after married even if you change your married name and if you would use Jane Smith Doe it would save some confusion
Yes you can. When you fill out the paperwork for a change of name for you SSN place the name how you intend to use it. That is how it will be used on other paperwork such as a change of name on your driver’s license.
