Practise taking pictures of people “in the moment.” It’s something you’re either talented with, or need alot of practise. Just carry your camera around and photo your friends laughing or working… the aim is to get excellent pictures as they act normally!
This is harder than it sounds, my friend takes millions of photos with his camera and is now excellent at taking people shots. (most of the time)
Look up tips on how to find the right lighting/position and angle to shoot from.
for example tip 1:
Don’t take photos of people who are standing directly beneath a light because it casts face shadows.
Also be friendly, open with the pictures… don’t make people feel as if they have to pose, catch them unaware (but not like BOO… thats daunting for them
)
Do your typical group formals, then go in for details. Shoes, flowers, rings etc. While candids are wonderful, so many people end up wanting the staged group shots (sigh!)
Have a strobe with a diffuser and bounce your light so that it is more natural. I use the Gary Fong Lightsphere, but if pride is not a factor you could make one from an inverted deli container.
