We’ve decided to make our own cake topper, our wedding theme is nature. It’s in August, and the wedding is at 7 p.m. We’ve decided t do butterflies and fairies. We wish to make our own cake topper so that we can do two fairies (a boy and a girl) sitting (preferably on a rock(s) (buying them separate won’t be a problem)) amidst a sea of red hibiscus flowers (this is our flower) and blue butterflies. I would be very happy if the fairies were wearing green. Do you know where I can find these such fairies online? And the small butterflies to put on top of the flowers? And small flowers so the fairies don’t look microscopic?

I also need larger butterflies to go in my bridesmaid’s bouquets. They are having bouquets of red hibiscus and I would like to put a blue butterfly in each. It will match their dresses which are going to be green with a blue butterfly sitting on a red hibiscus. Do you know where I can find these butterflies?
Already tried google, and it’s very hard to find what you’re looking for on there with out going through th crap sites first. I’m hoping that somebody will know a website where I can get the things I need. Thanks anyway!

This is my first attempt at a towel cake for a bridal shower. I incorporated the wedding colors of pink & purple with the ribbon and flowers. I also placed some spa items onto the cake

Ok so I have a few questions and would really appreciate it if everyone could help answer all of them… I am making my own wedding cake so this is important!

1. How many days in advance can I make my wedding cake if I plan on using Fondant?

2. What are the typical cake pan sizes needed for a three tier cake?

3. Is each tier made up of two cakes put together with frosting in between, equaling out to a total of 6 cakes put together…or is each tier just made up of one cake..or a total of three baked cakes together?

4. when stacking the tiers..after I put the dowels in, does the cardboard under the 2 and 3rd tear go on the cake as well…or do I stack the cakes ( using the dowels) without any cardboard at all..just all on top of each other.

5. Do i need to cover the cardboard with anything before I put the cakes on it?

6. Can I color fondant with just plain food coloring?

7. Were do I get the dowels ( grocery store etc.) and the cardboard base for the bottom tear?
I cannot afford to get a cake, making one is way cheaper, so If asomeone could judt help me out that would be great!

I’m going to start interviewing wedding cake bakeries and wanted to know what are some good questions to ask them prior to going in? So far my list includes:

How long have they been in business?
How many servings will you get from each size cake.
What does the baker charge for handmade decorations and are they cheaper than pre-made decorations.
Do you provide cake tops
What is their payment policy
What are the different types of icings and fillings they offer for their cakes.

Anyone got any other ideas or issues I should be concerned about, particularly pricing and extra charges?

After our first cake tasting (and gulping in shock at the sticker price) I have a few questions for you all:

3. If family made it or you got it at a grocery store that doesn’t deliver, how did you transport it / were you worried about a well meaning family member or friend driving it and ending up with smushed cake?

I have two questions. First, on average, Not for rich people who overspend dramatically, but on average, how much does a wedding cake cost? Also, Since my wedding will be outside, how will I make sure bugs stay away, and the cake doesn’t melt? It’s gonna be at a park, so there is no refrigerator there to keep it in. I’m worried that it will melt, or be surrounded by hungry insects. But I don’t want my wedding cake to ruin! So, any suggestions will help bunches! Thanks! : )

A new trend that is only just being picked up in the UK in 2010 is for monogram wedding cake toppers. This type of cake decoration is believed to be coming across from the USA and very few British and European retailers seem to have them available yet although one of my favourite gift retailers is at the forefront for this again! They are usually crafted from brushed steel or acrylic and all of the letters of the alphabet and some numbers are available. Monogrammed cake toppers usually include the initials of the bride and groom i.e. ´M & P´. What makes them really special though and what I believe is driving their popularity is that they are hand decorated with Swarovski crystals in a choice of colours to match your wedding theme. These crystal cake toppers really do create the ´wow´ factor sat atop your wedding cake!

There are  wedding cake toppers to suit every taste and every budget and this looks set to be one wedding trend that is set to have some longevity and continue to grow.
