It’s not only the divas of haute couture that set and change trends on a seasonal basis but the wedding planners too. With the ominous threat of global warming expected to scupper all our plans, the overwhelming trend this year is “Go Green”.

Brides are choosing organic materials and fibers for their gowns but they are also opting for soft flowing materials that cling seductively to the body. Ruffled hems, satin sashes and sparkling crystal, glass or beads as a glittering embellishment to the end product are also very much en vogue.

White out, colors all the rage

Instead of the traditional white dress, brides are also leaning towards more color with champagne, ivory, pink and platinum the order of the day. This opens up all sorts of exciting possibilities as far as the rest of the decor goes. With dedicated wedding stockists offering a wide array of linen for hire, including napkins and table cloths, there is virtually every hue and color under the sun up for grabs to enhance the overall color palette of the big day.

Hand tied posies replace the formality of the corsage

Even the traditional wedding blooms are no longer the imperious and formal arrangements of the days of yore. Hand-tied posies with wide satin ribbons have effectively replaced the decorum of the traditional corsage and wild, organic flowers are now the preferred choice of the bride and her groom.

The rose seems to have endured, however, primarily because of its traditionally silent message of love, but other favored varieties include simple peonies, Inca lilies, hydrangeas and tulips.

The centerpieces of the bridal table are also shifting more to au natural. A seasoned winner is to hire glassware in the shape of an enormous vase and then fill it with natural pretties such as sea shells, beach pebbles, crystals, beads or even fresh and dried berries or other fruit.

Food on the move encourages guests to mingle

The wedding fare has also had its fair share of tweaks and transformations with the eco-friendly theme top of any chef’s agenda. Instead of formal sit-down banquets, the inclination is toward uncomplicated, less formal offerings. A good idea is to hire the relevant catering equipment and set up a number of individual food stations for guest to gather around or to simply have a wide selection of “bowl food” to pass around amongst the guests.

This not only cuts down on the amount of crockery, cutlery, china and glassware that needs to be hired but also gently nudges guests to mingle and interact.

Over-sized couches for intimate moments with family and friends

Another recent development is the inclusion of big, comfortable couches, ottomans and cushions in the wedding environment. They not only make the most relaxed photo shoot opportunities but allow for more intimate moments between the bridal couple and their friends and family. So if you’re looking for comfort on your wedding day, make for the furniture rental experts.

Longer, personalized celebrations

Personalized venues and much longer celebrations seem to be the flavor of the year. So if you are off to a wedding anytime soon, best you be setting a couple of days aside for the pre-wedding boat trips, breakfasts and the occasional cricket match.

The rich earthy tones of the autumn, and crisp white of chilly winters inspires many a betrothed bride to plan her nuptials for the closing season. While runway fashion has made a cyclical return to elegant chic, key trends should be recognized for the planning of a fashionable wedding.

Dresses:

Couture fashion once again seems to have taken inspiration from the elegance of the 1920′s.
While black may not be the wisest theme for a wedding dress, ivory most certainly is. In a continuation of popularity, ivory once again takes precedence in the Autumn/ winter Collections. The floor-length wedding dress incorporates the favored strapless style with free-form ivory roses, which adorn the whole of the skirt. An alternative, knee-length dress combines the texture of rose petals in a cylindrical skirt, and floral applique to the bodice.
A stunning variety of projected trends for 2011. The popular European exhibition featured new and established designers, whose creations point toward a 50′s revival. Additionally, floor length, bead embellished ball-gowns, and ruffled hems made a significant impression on those looking out for new ideas and trends.
Despite floral textures making a come-back, consumer trends suggest that seasonally inspired colors such as rich plums, purples and jeweled greens are still a much favored option for brides-to-be. Combine dusky golds with purple accents to rock an edgy, contrasting look.

Shoes:

Satin has long been a popular option for bridal shoes, however latest trends point towards Royal Sapphire as being one of the hot colors of the season. Combined with the current ivory trend for dresses, blue creates a snappy contrast between traditional and couture; also in keeping with elegant jewelery featured prominently within bridal magazines. Despite the impending winter chill, peep-toe slipper designs continue to dominate the pages of new season bridal catalogs, along with pearl encrusted, kitten heel court shoes in ivory and cream.

Headwear:

The traditional tiara has been cast aside this winter in favor of jewel and pearl encrusted combs. The jaunty return of wedding hats; coupled with miniature netted veils in white and ivory. Floral applique again features prominently, however side-detailed headbands also show signs of a revival. Feather hair fascinators; combining light colors and wispy lace, are becoming a popular accessorizing option for brides who choose to ditch the traditional veil and decorate elegantly structured hairstyles with simple, faux flora and fauna.

Hair:

The romantic tumblic waves and au naturel of soft curls, popular during the summer have been altogether replaced by sleeker, Grecian-inspired elegance. French plaits still popularize many looks, however, film star elegance also features artfully structured “up-do’s” utilizing the plait trend reminiscent of 40′s fashions.

Jewelery:

Predictions for the 2011 bridal jewelery fashions range from vintage elegance, to feather inspired choker necklaces, with particular emphasis upon gold as the key color. Ideal for the festive season, gold contrasts with pale ivory and jewel hues beautifully.

While wedding fashions continue to involve and inspire, it should be realized that your style should be relevant to your wedding theme, and your own aspirations. Combining just a few contemporary ideas, with traditional styles can often be more fashion forward than trying to adopt the key looks of a season.

The late 2010 and 2011 wedding trends, like always, will be heavily influenced by what’s hot in the fashion world. There are also emerging fads that have nothing to do with fashion, but still will be all over the wedding world.

Ruffles and Frills
We’re not talking about all over ruffles, although a ruffled wedding skirt can be very pretty. Instead, these are the special small details that help a dress come to life. You might look for a wedding dress with subtle ruffles on the sleeve. Or, an asymmetrical wedding dress with a feminine detail highlighting the back. These kinds of special details can help a gown feel more personal and lovely.

Homemade Wedding Favors
Though favors are an expense that’s easy to eliminate, right now couples are especially grateful to guests who have incurred considerable expense to be a part of the celebration.

Strapless Wedding Dresses
If you’re saying to yourself, “This isn’t a new 2010 wedding trend!” you’re right. Strapless wedding dresses have been extremely popular for several years now. And though more brides are opting for sleeves, straps, and other ways of covering the shoulders, strapless is going to continue to be the dominant wedding dress style for the near future.
Lots of mermaid style dresses in collections – we’re getting womanly again!

Colors
If you want to be in the know for next wedding season’s color, just watch all the bridal magazines right now. Brides are planning the wedding 6-18 months out. So naturally, what’s in the magazines now will start to materialize 6-12 months down the road.
Bright colours are also big for 2011. These include hot pink, orange and apple green. They bring some beautiful touches to a wedding and are particularly nice for a summer wedding.

Highly Themed
The most notable trend is theme weddings. While color has been the dictator of “theme” in the past; now the couple expresses themselves through strong themes over color.

Honeyweekends – we discovered it and we’re loving it!

Weddings are rich with tradition. In fact, many of the customs which a bride and groom may include in their own wedding are there because it “is the way things have always been done”, rather than because they specifically want those elements as part of their special day. Take a look at this look into some of the most common wedding traditions, as we answer the question: should they be kept or discarded?

White Wedding Gowns. This custom does not date as far back as many people think. It was Queen Victoria who started the craze for white bridal gowns. Before her marriage to Prince Albert, most brides simply wore their best dress or a new gown in their favorite color. The white wedding gown has taken on many connotations, especially as a symbol of the purity of the bride. There is a trend these days moving away from white (or ivory) gowns in favor of wedding dresses with either a little color or made entirely in a color like red. So as to the question of whether this tradition should be kept or discarded, the answer is to wear a traditional white wedding gown with classic pearl wedding jewelry only if you really want to. If you want to wear a red dress for your wedding day, by all means do it!

Bridesmaids. Did you know that the original purpose of bridesmaids was to dress in clothing similar to that of the bride’s to confuse the evil spirits who were believed to be drawn to brides? And bridesmaids today think they have it bad; at least all they have to ward off is unwanted advances from drunken groomsmen! Today the custom of having a bridal party has evolved into choosing to spend your wedding surrounded by your best girlfriends for support and to make the wedding planning process more fun along the way. Who doesn’t want her best friends around on one of the most exciting days of her life? Bridesmaids are a definite tradition to keep. Abuse of bridesmaids, however, is something that is definitely out, so remember to treat them like your friends, not your personal servants.

Wedding Gifts. When there is a wedding in the works, there are sure to be lots of presents involved. There are bridal shower gifts, wedding presents, gifts from the bride and groom to one another, gifts from the bride and groom to their parents, groomsmen and bridesmaid gifts, and even wedding favors to thank the guests for coming. Whew! Are all these gifts really necessary? Well, it depends. For a young couple just starting out, the answer is yes, the gift giving traditions surrounding weddings are wonderful. The shower and wedding presents are designed to help the newlyweds set up their first home, and the gifts which they give to their parents and bridal party to show appreciation are definitely important. Besides, what bride doesn’t want to receive a some special pearl wedding jewelry from her father or fiance right before the ceremony? That said, when the couple has been married before, some of the gift giving customs have to go. A shower is a no-no for the second time bride, and lavish wedding gifts are also unnecessary when the bride and groom are merging two complete households.

Garter Toss. The garter toss started out because of an old superstition that said grabbing a piece of the bride’s clothing would bring some of her good fortune to the bearer. After a while, brides tired of having their gowns ripped apart by their guests, and started tossing their garters to the crowd instead. The groom got in on the act to prevent any over eager luck-seekers from trying to go under the bridal gown to retrieve the lucky garter themselves. These days, however, the garter toss has turned into nothing more than a tacky moment in what should be an elegant day. The point is no longer about catching the garter for luck, but rather in seeing how far the groom can push the borders of good taste. For that reason, the garter toss belongs on the scrap heap of wedding traditions!

So, what other traditions do you think are worthy of keeping or ditching? The dollar dance, the rehearsal dinner, or maybe the traditional marriage vows? Let the debating begin!

This year wedding trends carry a common theme – personality and individual style. Brides want their wedding to reflect not only current trends but their own taste. As always, attention to detail is what makes the event special and the couple stand out. Even when they seem like the same old, there are unique unexpected twists in wedding trends this year. Don’t plan a wedding without reading these suggestions.

Whether you’re a wedding planner or a DIY bride, watch these 2 trends:

1. All white wedding cakes.

This year white wedding cakes that have a classic look are popular right now. Even off-white is popular in simple lines. To pull in some color, add an interesting flower, ribbon or detail. It will really pops against a white backdrop.

Our choice? A few red zinnias that really pop.

2. Wedding candy buffet.

This trend continues to be popular – and is practically timeless. Use different shaped clear bowls, martini glasses and containers full of candy. Match the candy to your wedding colors. Tie bows around the tall glass vases. Make each a different height so they are staggered. Either assemble everything on one table, or put candy jars throughout the entire space.

Here to help you plan ahead for your perfect day are 10 top tips on the hottest trends for 2010 weddings.

1. The colors tipped for 2010 are shying away from the traditional. Black was a popular color and accent color in 2009 and this in set to continue into 2010. Vibrant colors such as orange, yellow, pink and green will be on show in the summer wedding season.

2: Wedding Dresses in 2010 are showing a strong tie in with recent months most popular fashion trends. The wedding dress is set to be very romantic, princess-like in style with net and tulle cascading over the whole skirt or even the whole dress. Sheer fabrics such as net and tulle add great texture and a fairytale look to any dress.

4: Hair accessories and Bird Cage Veils are going to be big in 2010. From elegant headbands and intricate fascinators, we’ll see them in the aisles. Take inspiration for 2009′s celebrity brides Suzanne Shaw and Carly Zucker.

5. Eco-friendly chic is certainly buzzing with a lot of couples are trying to incorporate a ‘green factor’ into their wedding day. A perfect way to introduce some eco-friendly style into your wedding is with wedding favors. Plantable wedding favors are not only the perfect contribution to the environmentally friendly campaign but are so beautiful and unique; they will certainly get your guest’s talking.

6. Closer to Home. With the current economic times, weddings have also been affected. Many couples who first thought of traveling to far off, exotic destinations have opted for venues a little closer to home. This will help your guest have the same ‘away from it all break’ without breaking the bank.

7. Individual cakes and decorated cupcakes are still growing in popularity in 2010 over the traditional wedding cake. It allows couples to introduce a unique and fun element to this part of their day and to be honest who can resist a cupcake.

8. Wedding Favors are becoming more thoughtful year upon year. Many couples are focusing a great deal of their time on creating an enjoyable and memorable experience for their guests. With so many beautiful and useful wedding favors available, couples will be able to find favours that their guest will treasure but will also truly reflect their day.

9. Wedding Flowers. In line with recent years the Calla Lily and Rose will never go out of style. However, with the vibrant colors predicted, bouquets and centerpieces will incorporate splashes of color. Don’t be afraid to include some exotic and vivacious flowers to create stunning flower displays.

10. Splurge on capturing the memories. Although times are tight, more couples are looking to allocate a larger part of their budget to photography and videos of their day. Couples want to capture the great experience with great photos and great videos. You can’t put a price on the memories and the joy from re-visiting the special day again and again through photos and film.

And that is this curious love affair people have with their pets – especially dogs. I have never seen such a strange and striking change in how Americans perceive their pets.
Now that it’s legal for homos to wed, and now that everyone thinks a dog is part of the family, something to love and sleep in your bed, etc…
Are we heading toward legally sanctioned bestiality?
And if pets are part of the family, is this not also legally sanctioned incestuous bestiality. And finally, since dogs are mature at age 1, is this not legally sanctioned incestuous bestiality ‘pup’dephelia?

Wondering what’s in this year, I’ve seen a lot of short dresses, but I like the large poofy, almost wedding like dresses. Any suggestion on where to get an inexpensive dress, I really don’t want to spend a lot, since it’s not my prom, $100 is pretty much the limit. Thanks!!
