Yes to both of your questions. When you get to the store, go to the Customer Service desk and question for a print out of your friend’s registry. Select something within your price range (anything on the registry is appropriate) and take it to the counter. Give the cashier the registry print out, she’ll scan it and it will show up as bought on the registry. Question her to gift wrap it, and they will do it for free.
You have to make sure you’ve specified that it’s for the registry. You can print off a copy of the registry, and there will be a barcode at the bottom. When the cashier scans the item at checkout, they will also scan the registry barcode, and that will check off that item. I reckon the Bed Bath and Beyond customer service does gift wrapping, but it will be extra. EDIT – Ok, I just looked at the above answer. Maybe it’s not extra.
If the couple has registered for something, it means they either need it or want it. Anything on the list, even something that seems lame like dish towels, will be appreciated.
As long as you go to Bed Bath and Beyond and advise the clerk at the register the items you have bought came of a wedding registry then they will be taken off the list. The problem with this, is that most people forget to tell the cashier and the bride to be lands up getting doubles. But that will happen regardless.
Gift wrapping is free.
If they have a registry, and you get something directly off of the list, then that would be appropriate. If you are asking price wise appropriate, then I would say that depending how well you know the person, my rule of thumb for most people is around $50-$75.
Maybe you can look up their gift registry online before going to the store…I have done that before and it helps give you an thought of what the couple is wanting and price ranges of the gifts. Yes, when you buy something off of a gift registry, the store marks it as sold to keep the recipient from getting duplicates. You will have to tell the cashier that the items came off of a gift registry though when you pay for the items. I don’t know if BBB does gift wrap, but if not, they probably have boxes or gift wrap for sale. A quick call to the store would probably tell you their gift wrapping policy if they have one. As far as what to buy the couple, I usually like to buy towels, pieces of their china pattern, picture frames, or something that would be special from you (such as you and the bride were in a cooking class together and she loved a certain cake pan, etc.) The pleased couple is lucky to have such a thoughtful friend like you:):)
You have been given excellent advise here. But one thing was overlooked:
This just happened to me. The registry list was picked over and most of the things left were very inexpensive items. Yeah I could have bought a can opener, one bath sheet, a spatula and a tooth brush holder, but that would have been a very odd gift basket of random things. MY POINT: What I wanted to buy, along with a bunch of other things in my price range ($75 to $100) were on-line buys ONLY. Oh no, the bridal shower was the next day!!
I went home and made the on-line buy to be sent to the bride. I arrived at the party with a huge wrapped empty box and a card along with a amusing poem about the invisible gift in the box which will magically appear on her doorstep the following week. Come to find out, I was not the only person who was sending along a gift IOU from an internet sale. From what I gather, this is becoming a more common practice that I imagined as stores with internet sales do not carry all inventory in every store, so it has to be ordered on line.
