This is fun!
1. I agree with pick-up skirts–to princessy and childish for my taste.
2. Mermaid dresses–they make everyone’s butt look unattractively huge.
3. Monogrammed cake toppers
4. Gaudy rings
5. Tiffany blue
6. Brown with every other color under the sun, it seems
7. Disney themes (it’s not an 8-year-ancient’s birthday party!)
8. Any theme that’s so overdone you forget you’re at a wedding
9. Greed in any form (showers on the second or later marriage, requests for cash gifts, gift card showers, sending registry information in the wedding invitation, kissing jars, money dances when they’re not an ingrained part of your culture, and on and on).
10. And the worst offense of all: do-over weddings (“I didn’t have a huge wedding when I got married, now I want one with all the trimmings and gifts and bachelorette party, etc.”).

Pick-up skirts..they look messy

Strapless………only because they are too overdone

Way Over-The Top Themes…..if I want a Cinderella, sci-fi, middle ages, pirate, halloween,gone fishing, Nascar, rodeo,vampire, redneck, etc I’ll go to a B.D party.

Cash bars…do either open bar or dry…..expecting guests to pay for their refreshments is rude.

Money dances…..it seems like the shower & wedding gift should be enough.

Bride and groom serenading each other…way too hokey, and most of ‘em can’t sing anyway

Dogs, Cats, horses, elephants, camels, etc as part of the wedding party…..can’t the ring bearer have two legs??????

Fairy wings on flower girls…..WTF??????

Blatantly asking for cash as gifts….rude no matter how it’s done…the guest decides what to give…wow……….

Inviting some to the shower & not the wedding reception….rude.

Destination weddings for first time marriage..screws so many people outta going and unfair to reckon someone can and will drop several thousand dollars to attend some one else’s wedding.

Wedding do-overs……silly & rediculous except for servicemen who are deployed overseas.

Over-done & overloaded cupcake towers…The Mothership Has Landed!

Candy Buffets…..WHY??????? Is it a wedding or a movie concession stand.

Chocolate Fountains….germy & messy………

Huge white ‘blushing bride ‘ weddings complete with bride’s maids, etc for second, third, fourth etc time brides….enough already!

I despise the whole we eloped because we thought it was romantic (or whatever excuse), but come to our next wedding anyway because we need more gifts and attention. Wedding do-overs are BS.

I despise slutty looking bridal gowns. I also wish there was more variety. Not every bride wants to wear a strapless dress.

Oh God, that’s tough. Let me see.
1. The fact that nearly all gowns are sleeveless, not everyone looks excellent in one.
2. Whiny Bridezillas
3. Using neon colors in a wedding. Hot pink is not a wedding color.
4. Having color combinations that don’t match, lime green and teal? Come on.
5. Having any sort of hint towards ‘give me money’ anywhere in the invitation or ceremony or reception, it’s rude and tasteless.
6. Huge engagement rings. Since when is it necessary to spend $10K to show how much you like someone?
7. Spending money on things that have no importance to the wedding and that no one will want or use, ex. wedding favors that you wouldn’t want, but give to your guests.
8. Ocean themed weddings, there are only so many things you can do with fish decorations. And no, blue and green don’t match. The few years I had in Art classes taught me that much.
9. Bridesmaids dresses that are small enough to see their mismatched thongs. I don’t want to see your underwear and I don’t care if the 16 year ancient boys do, I don’t want to, I don’t have to and I will probably throw a towel over you so I won’t be forced to vomit.
10. Not having enough of a selection at the reception to accommodate special needs. Like some people having all sugar drinks with no alternatives. What if someone has diabetes? I guess you’ll just have to give grandma some water.
11. Parents or relatives that insist that if you don’t have a $100K wedding then you aren’t doing it right. Who says you have to go broke in order to get married? The whole purpose of the event is so that you get married, who cares if it’s done on the beach, in a hotel, a church or your backyard?

I can go on and on. I personally like weddings, I reckon they are a fantastic celebration of a new phase of life. But I don’t reckon that you should abandon all sense of decorum because it’s ‘your day’. Since when is a wedding only about the bride? Oh, another thing:
12. Brides who forget that the Groom is a part of the wedding!

I agree with you!! Those pick-up gowns are stupid. And they’re going to look as dated as puffy sleeves in a few years!

Otherwise, I despise:

-Taking out a loan, second mortgage, or emptying your savings account to throw a four hour party

-Candy Buffets

-Favors (no one really cares about these other than the bride & groom)

-Themes

-The connect that because you’re a bride, you are the center of the universe and no one else is allowed to have feelings

-Being upset that your “thunder was stolen” because your friend is getting married sooner/having a larger wedding/”stole” your colors, etc.

-Doing anything because you reckon you have to instead of because you want to

Agreed with many on pick-up skirts. They’ll end up the butt-bows of our time – brides will look back with their daughters and go, “I know, it’s hideous, but it was really fashionable in 2008, I swear.”

No styles available that aren’t strapless or halter. What happened to variety?

Too many “special dances”, especially ones where the guests are supposed to just watch for song after song. I really don’t care to watch as the bride and groom do the Middle-School-Sway-Shuffle in a tight circle for four minutes, followed by the bride and dad, groom and his mom, et cetera ad nauseam.

Along the same lines – “surprise” first dances where a slow song changes abruptly to some sort of performance piece. Overdone.

“I Do Re-Do’s” – the advent of the “do-over wedding”. It’s one thing when a couple MUST get married in a quickie service due to deployment (or, in my friend’s case, where she wanted to get married before her mother passed away from breast cancer) and they want to do the huge wedding later, but just doing it over because you couldn’t afford it before or because you just didn’t like it so much, that’s crap. If someone is going to do a renewal of vows, it should mean NO bridesmaids, NO giant white dress and NO-NO-NO gifts.

Personalized anything is so 80′s.

Matchbooks, and jordan almonds (are people still doing this?)

Film cameras on the tables (this is the 21st century and age on digital, I can’t believe that people STILL throw their money on this).

and I agree with the person that mentioned the casquede bouquets. Really eighties!

and I absolutly HATE teh bubble thing. Grown up people DO NOT want to blow bubbles! At the weddings that I’ve been to no one was ever blow them

Most certainly the pick up skirts. I simply despise those dresses.

I also despise theme weddings. I mean over the top theme weddings. Hawaiin

Weddings people can’t afford and want their guests to pick up the tab by asking for money in invitations. Yucky.

Putting registry info in wedding invites. Everyone likes to receive gifts, hey it’s fun, but a wedding shouldn’t be an automatic “Here is where you can get my gift from”.

Bridezillas- They are classless, rude, ungrateful and must be the where the phrase started “it’s my day”. For those, they should elope for just their day. A wedding is about all those involved including guests.

That’s all for the moment. More may come to mind though.

I reckon the “just the two of us” eloping things are quite selfish. You don’t have to go into debt to have a huge fancy wedding, but your families are usually people who would want to be there on your wedding day and I just feel like its not polite to cut them out of that. You are going to have to deal with these people for the rest of your married life, why tick them off starting with your wedding day?
